Kingwood Cabinets

It's hard to believe that the well established KingWood Custom Cabinets in Fredericksburg, Texas originally began 30 years ago in King's pickup truck, but that it did. King was a determinied 25 year-old with a passion that could not be ignored. Word about his talent spread like wildfire and soon he had a clientbase of his own. With his work in high demand, it was time for him to take the next step.

I could no longer work from my truck and it started to make more sense to build cabinets in a shop area. The first shop I had was a small garage between 300-400 sqare feet.

The size of his shop was of little importance compared to the size of his growing clientele. The need to master more facets of the business grew. Soon King found himself overwhelmed with orders and decided to expand his one-man company. He continually hired on staff and moved into larger shops as needed. This process continued through the years to get to where he is now in Fredericksburg, TX. "We just needed more room for larger machinery and to fit more of our products because our jobs just kept getting bigger and bigger" King said.

Now Kingwood Custom Cabinets is the workplace of over 40 employees, including King's daughter Marci; 25 and son Dana; 29. The staff members are proud to work at Kingwood because of the divine quality of their cabinets and King's appreciation of the team. And it shows Terry Noel has been part of the teamwork that KingWood exemplifies. "KingWood Custom Cabinets has a real family environment, it is a perfect match. I like working for Greg because he is professional, a good man, and takes care of his employees," Noel said.

The team effort at Kingwood Fine Cabinetry focuses on compiling the individual talents into the collective effort. King says that, "it is important that the team is willing to work together towards the ultimate goal; in the end they must be happy with what they are producing."

Then King humbly adds "I want to emphasize that although I play a large role at KingWood, I am nothing without the people that work here. The team effort and willingness of the staff is what makes it successfull."

"We have it set up so that we can basically do anything that the client can think of," Marci said. "We like the idea that we are truly a custom built cabinets company that provides our clients with peices of furniture instead of standard cabinets," King adds in.

Much of Kingwood's business is in high-end residential homes. Although they also work in high end commercial cabinets.

Kingwood's Kitchen Cabinets have been in demand as far as Mexico City and as far north as Wisconsin are in demand all over the United States.

Kingwood has proved themselves "trail blazers" with incorporation of copper in their custom cabinets. Greg chuckles, "We like to start the trend and let others keep up with us."

Although keeping up with trends is highly important to the company , functionality is their top priority.

"Anyone can create something that is pretty, but if its not functional then it doesn't do you any good" King said.

King emphasizes that one of the reasons people want unique detailed custom cabinets is because the focus on family gatherings has switched from the living room to the kitchen.

"The kitchen is the center core of the home," he says, in his own kitchen, he and his wife of 33 years, Jill, have cooked many meals and have hosted many family and friends gatherings with their children Dana and Marci along with their spouses Miranda and Matthew. The kitchen is also one of the room's where Jill crafts her latest hobby, jewelry. Her life of being an artist never took time away from raising her children, "my wife is a housewife, she has the hardest job of us all," King says with admiration. "She's the domestic godess," Marci chimes in.

The success of KingWood Fine Cabinetry is genuinely unparallel to any other cabinet company. When King thinks about where he has been, his dedicated team, and the remarkable quality of their work, he has one dominate feeling.

"it makes you proud, really proud," King says.
